James Irvin managed the Milesburg Iron Works in Centre County with Joseph Green, Andrew Gregg and John M. McCoy. They managed under the titles James Irvin & Co., Irvin, Gregg & Co., and Irvin, McCoy & Co.. In 1859 Irvin moved to Philadelphia to manage the McCoy & Linn iron store.
